The civil trial pitting former Tourism minister Mame Mbaye Niang against Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko over a disputed property in the Cité Keur Gorgui district of Dakar has been pushed back to July 22, 2026.
The legal dispute centers on a 264-square-meter villa (lot number R/17) that Mame Mbaye Niang claims was fraudulently transferred to another party.
The case was initially scheduled for June 10 but was adjourned after the third civil chamber of the Dakar court requested additional time to review the written submissions from both legal teams. Ousmane Sonko’s defense filed counterarguments challenging the validity of the property transfer, while Mame Mbaye Niang’s legal representatives maintain it was an intentional effort to prevent asset seizure.
At the heart of the matter is a prior court ruling awarding Mame Mbaye Niang 200 million CFA francs in damages—a decision Ousmane Sonko is legally required to honor. The plaintiff argues that the disputed property transfer was a deliberate strategy to evade enforcement of the judgment by rendering Sonko insolvent.
The upcoming hearing will focus on the merits of the civil case, with both sides preparing to present their final arguments before the court renders a verdict.
