Olympique Lyonnais denied request to postpone first Ligue 1 match against Toulouse
The LFP, already under pressure from club requests, has once again rejected a postponement plea. The Lyonnais are slated to face Toulouse in their Ligue 1 season opener, but their schedule could be complicated by European competition. Lyon must navigate a potential third qualifying round in the Champions League, with matches slated for August 4 or 5 (first leg) and August 11 (second leg).
Should the club advance further in Europe, midweek playoff fixtures could clash with weekend league commitments. This scenario mirrors earlier requests from Paris Saint-Germain and Strasbourg during the spring season. Despite these concerns, the LFP’s governing body has denied Lyon’s appeal during a Monday evening video conference, emphasizing the need to maintain the integrity of the Ligue 1 season’s opening weekend.
Ligue 1 season kicks off as scheduled
The LFP’s decision underscores its commitment to keeping the new Ligue 1+ broadcast schedule uninterrupted. Lyon’s players will now have to balance European ambitions with domestic league duties, potentially facing a grueling schedule if they progress in both competitions. Their opening Ligue 1 match against Toulouse remains firmly set for August 22, regardless of European commitments.
