Rabat hosts milestone anniversary of Morocco-Vietnam diplomatic ties
Rabat witnessed a special celebration on Friday marking 65 years since Morocco and Vietnam established formal diplomatic relations. The event, organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in partnership with Morocco’s High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters and Army Members, highlighted decades of shared history and mutual respect.
The highlight of the day was the launch of a new exhibition titled “President Hô Chi Minh – Symbol of Peace and International Friendship”. Running until June 26, the display traces the life of the Vietnamese national liberation hero, whose vision of peace, independence and cross-border cooperation continues to inspire both nations. The exhibition was made possible through collaboration between the Vietnam Friendship Association, Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association, and the Hô Chi Minh Memorial Site under Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Building stronger ties through dialogue and partnership
A key part of the celebration was an academic seminar exploring ways to deepen bilateral cooperation across diplomacy, trade, education, culture and human exchanges. The discussions emphasized the growing strength of relations between the two countries, built on decades of trust and shared values.
Mustapha El Ktiri, High Commissioner for Former Resistance Fighters and Army Members and President of the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association, opened the event by reflecting on the deep historical significance of the partnership. He described the anniversary as “a testament to the shared journey of two peoples who have overcome challenges together, guided by a common aspiration for freedom and dignity”.
El Ktiri also recalled a symbolic milestone: the 2022 inauguration of the Vietnam Gate in Kénitra, a counterpart to Morocco’s Gate of Bà Vi in Vietnam. These twin monuments, he noted, serve as enduring bridges between continents and generations.
Vietnam’s Ambassador to Morocco, Le Kim Quy, praised the tangible progress in bilateral relations, pointing to the increase in high-level visits and exchanges in recent years. She noted that these interactions reflect the growing mutual trust and commitment to deepening their strategic partnership.
Economic and cultural exchanges gain momentum
The ambassador highlighted impressive growth in trade, with two-way commerce reaching $390 million in 2025. This upward trend extends beyond economics, touching education, cultural exchanges and decentralized cooperation between local governments in both countries.
The celebration also saw the inauguration of the Hô Chi Minh Library, a new resource center housing books in French, English and Arabic. The collection was generously donated by the Hô Chi Minh Memorial Site, enriching Morocco’s cultural and intellectual landscape.
