This weekend, Bujumbura has become the focal point for a series of Congolese delegations gathering for critical consultations on the political landscape in the Democratic Republic of Congo. These discussions were convened at the invitation of Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye, who currently holds the rotating chairmanship of the African Union.
Prominent members of the C64 opposition coalition’s presidium have arrived in the Burundian capital. Among them are Martin Fayulu, Delly Sesanga, Dieudonné Bolengetenge, Jean Marc Kabun, and Francklin Tshiamala. They are scheduled to meet with President Ndayishimiye to address the pressing issues facing their nation.
Religious leaders are also actively participating in these crucial talks. Archbishop Ejiba Yamapia, who presides over the Platform of Religious Confessions and Revival Churches in the RDC, is present. Delegations representing the Catholic Church and the Church of Christ in Congo (ECC) have also made the journey to Bujumbura.
These high-level consultations in Bujumbura thus bring together both the political opposition and key religious denominations from the RDC, all focused on finding pathways to resolve the country’s ongoing political crisis.
