The President of Faso, Head of State, Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ, held a working session this Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the Koulouba Palace with his counterpart from the Republic of Benin, Romuald WADAGNI, on an official visit to Ouagadougou.
In a joint press release issued by Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karamoko Jean Marie TRAORÉ, the Beninese President’s visit marks a decisive milestone in revitalizing bilateral relations. The two heads of state conducted an in-depth review of cooperation and reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening a partnership built on trust, solidarity, and joint solutions to common challenges.
Security in the spotlight during high-level talks
The subregional security situation took center stage in discussions. Both leaders underscored the urgency of consolidating cooperation against terrorism, transborder crime, and violent extremism. Presidents TRAORÉ and WADAGNI reiterated their determination to work together for peace, stability, and sustainable development across West Africa.
Economic cooperation and regional integration priorities
On the economic front, the presidents highlighted promising prospects in trade, industry, vocational training, infrastructure, and logistics. The strategic role of the Port of Cotonou in supplying Burkina Faso was emphasized, alongside the need to improve transport corridor efficiency. They agreed to expedite the 5th Session of the Joint High Commission for Cooperation and finalize pending agreements. The Faso President and his counterpart also celebrated the harmonious integration of their respective communities and reaffirmed the importance of historical and human ties between their peoples.
The visit concluded with an official invitation from the Beninese President to his Burkinabè counterpart, marking a renewed momentum for regional prosperity and integration.
