Nearly four years after the Mouvement patriotique pour la sauvegarde et la restauration (MPSR II) assumed control, the security landscape in Burkina Faso remains deeply troubling. In an official declaration, the Union générale des étudiants burkinabè (UGEB) has openly criticized the outcomes of the transitional government led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré. Citing persistent attacks, a severe humanitarian crisis, soaring living costs, and unfulfilled pledges, the student organization issued a scathing indictment, highlighting the shortcomings of the current strategy employed by the Ouagadougou authorities.
The ‘three-month’ myth confronts frontline realities
Upon seizing power in September 2022, Captain Ibrahim Traoré ignited immense hope among a suffering populace. The young officer had then suggested that the security crisis could be swiftly resolved, even hinting at a three-month timeframe to reverse the prevailing trend. Yet, nearly forty-eight months later, the UGEB’s assessment is unequivocal: the promised turnaround has not materialized.
