Côte d’Ivoire secures historic $80 billion funding for 2026-2030 development plan
The President of Côte d’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara, has hailed the nation’s remarkable financial mobilization, exceeding expectations by securing over 47 trillion West African francs (approximately $80 billion) in commitments for the 2026-2030 National Development Plan (NDP). This unprecedented achievement reflects the international community’s strong confidence in Côte d’Ivoire’s economic stability, robust fundamentals, and development trajectory.
Unprecedented global investor turnout in Abidjan
The announcement came at the conclusion of the Consultative Group meeting for the NDP 2026-2030, held on July 8-9 in Abidjan. Over 2,000 investors from 49 countries participated in the high-level event, representing a diverse range of stakeholders including financial institutions, investment funds, banks, business associations, public and private enterprises, and development partners. The strong representation underscored the global confidence in Côte d’Ivoire’s economic potential.
Overwhelming success surpasses targets
The commitments secured during the two-day forum total $80 billion, far exceeding the target of 11.1 trillion West African francs (approximately $19 billion). This financial windfall represents nearly four times the anticipated funding, signaling strong international endorsement of Côte d’Ivoire’s development vision.
NDP 2026-2030: A transformative vision for Côte d’Ivoire
The NDP 2026-2030 outlines a clear mission: to build a stable, ambitious, and united great nation. With a total investment volume of 114.8 trillion West African francs (around $209 billion) over five years, the plan places significant emphasis on private sector participation, which is expected to drive 70.2% of investments. This collaborative approach aims to accelerate economic and social transformation across the country.
Six strategic pillars define the development agenda
The NDP is structured around six key priorities:
- Peace, security, and stability: Ensuring a safe environment for growth and prosperity
- Agriculture and agro-industry: Leveraging Côte d’Ivoire’s agricultural strengths
- Private sector development and industrialization: Fostering innovation and job creation
- Human capital: Investing in education and skills development
- Strategic infrastructure: Building roads, energy, and digital networks
- Good governance and state modernization: Enhancing transparency and efficiency
Ambitious economic targets by 2030
The NDP sets ambitious macroeconomic goals, aiming to elevate Côte d’Ivoire to the status of an upper-middle-income country by 2030. Key targets include achieving a GDP per capita of $4,500 and reducing poverty levels to below 20%. Achieving these milestones will require coordinated efforts across all sectors of society.
President Ouattara emphasized the government’s commitment to translating these financial commitments into tangible outcomes for all Ivorians. This includes expanding access to quality education and healthcare, improving transportation networks, creating jobs, and fostering shared prosperity. The ultimate goal is to build a more inclusive and prosperous Côte d’Ivoire where every citizen can thrive.
« Together, with confidence, determination, and unity, we will continue building a Côte d’Ivoire that is ever more prosperous and united, » Ouattara concluded, reflecting the collective spirit driving the nation’s development agenda.
