The Director-General of Côte d’Ivoire’s National Committee for Remote Sensing and Geographical Information (CNTIG), Dr. Edouard Fonh-Gbéi, was awarded a prestigious prize on Thursday, 18 June 2026, in Abidjan during the Soirée des Bâtisseurs de l’économie africaine gala. The accolade, which he dedicates to his entire team, underscores their collective commitment to advancing geospatial technologies for national development.
“This recognition belongs first and foremost to a dedicated team whose vision we have pursued with conviction and whose daily efforts have driven real progress,” Dr. Fonh-Gbéi stated. He expressed gratitude to the organisers and partners whose support has been instrumental in positioning CNTIG as a leader in digitalising Côte d’Ivoire’s territory.
The award also reflects the transformative impact of geoinformation technologies under Dr. Fonh-Gbéi’s leadership, a field in which he has over two decades of international experience. A geodetic engineer with a PhD in civil engineering specialising in satellite geodesy, he was appointed CNTIG chief in 2012 following an open international recruitment process. Since then, he has spearheaded initiatives that integrate spatial data into economic planning, infrastructure management and environmental monitoring across the country.
“Receiving this prize fills me with gratitude, but it is also a call to action—to redouble our ambitions, raise our standards and expand our impact,” he said. “The greatest achievements are still ahead.”
The Soirée des Bâtisseurs de l’économie africaine, established in 2006, celebrates excellence and merit in African entrepreneurship and business, recognising individuals and organisations whose work elevates economic development across the continent.
