At least 22 military personnel and civilian auxiliaries supporting the army were tragically killed in suspected jihadist attacks over the weekend in northern Burkina Faso.
On Saturday morning, a base belonging to a Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) in Di, situated near Dédougou, came under attack from suspected jihadist militants. This assault resulted in the deaths of at least fourteen soldiers and seven Volontaires pour la défense de la patrie (VDP), who are civilian auxiliaries supporting the military.
A separate incident saw the town of Solhan targeted in another attack, which also claimed multiple lives, including that of an officer. Local security officials have confirmed both of these devastating events in the northern region of Burkina Faso.
