Africa CDC Director General Jean Kaseya confirmed today that he received a constructive exchange with France’s Health Minister Stéphanie Rist regarding the confirmed case of Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease imported into France from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The France’s explicit assurance that no travel restrictions would be imposed in response to this imported case was particularly welcomed by Africa CDC leadership. This pledge underscores the commitment between both nations to maintain open communication channels during public health emergencies.

The patient, a Congolese humanitarian doctor who had been actively involved in Ebola response efforts in Ituri Province under the banner of ALIMA, tested positive after arriving in France, where he resides. This marks the first confirmed Ebola case on French territory linked to the ongoing outbreak in DRC.

Kaseya emphasized that Africa CDC, the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), and health authorities in both France and DRC remain fully committed to containing the outbreak. He highlighted the importance of coordinated continental and global responses to protect communities and prevent further spread of the virus.
