The partnership between Morocco and the United Arab Emirates stands as a prime example of a pragmatic and mutually beneficial alliance, rooted in deep historical ties established by the late King Hassan II and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
These enduring relations are distinguished by shared strategic visions, reciprocal political backing, and a diversified economic collaboration. A notable highlight is their consistent alignment on global challenges, demonstrated through high-level exchanges whenever pressing regional or international issues arise.
On June 2, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, welcomed King Mohammed VI at his residence in Rabat for a private visit. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for the two leaders to discuss pressing international issues, with a particular focus on developments in the Gulf and Middle East. The encounter underscored the unbreakable fraternal ties between the two heads of state and their respective families.
The alliance between the two nations was further solidified in December 2023 through a landmark agreement signed by King Mohammed VI and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This framework is designed to elevate their relationship beyond conventional cooperation, fostering qualitative synergies and sustainable investments across economic, commercial, industrial, and investment sectors. The partnership thrives on mutual trust, enabling both sides to implement pragmatic initiatives that serve their shared interests and drive collective progress.
The collaboration has already yielded innovative operational models aligned with their strategic goals. Key priorities include high-value projects backed by financial mobilization, public-private partnerships, and investment capital. One focal area is food security, with discussions underway to explore joint ventures with the Office chérifien des phosphates (OCP) in fertilizer production. Additionally, the partnership aims to develop tourism and real estate projects along the Mediterranean coast, particularly in Dakhla and Tarfaya, as well as support reconstruction efforts in areas affected by the Al Haouz earthquake.
Morocco has consistently reaffirmed its commitment to the security and stability of its Gulf allies. During the recent tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, Morocco publicly condemned Iran’s aggressive actions against Gulf nations. In a show of solidarity, King Mohammed VI held a phone conversation with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, expressing full support for the United Arab Emirates in their time of need.
