Nantes handed closed-door sanction after disciplinary ruling on final Ligue 1 match
The Ligue de football professionnel has confirmed sanctions against FC Nantes following crowd disturbances during their final Ligue 1 fixture against Toulouse.
The Ligue de football professionnel (LFP) has officially ratified the 0-0 score from FC Nantes’ final Ligue 1 match against Toulouse, played on May 17. The verdict comes after the game was abandoned due to severe crowd disturbances in the Loire stand.
The disciplinary commission confirmed the score, stating: “After reviewing the investigation report, the commission has definitively ratified the score recorded on the field at the moment of definitive abandonment (0-0)”.
Multiple sanctions imposed
In addition to confirming the match result, the LFP has imposed several sanctions on FC Nantes:
- A one-match closed-door fixture
- Two additional matches with the Loire stand closed
The match on May 17 was interrupted when Nantes supporters invaded the pitch and threw smoke bombs, despite the team already being relegated to Ligue 2. Security forces intervened to restore order, but the referee ultimately abandoned the game citing “prefectural decision for safety reasons”.
This means FC Nantes will play their first home match in Ligue 2 without spectators. The sanctions underscore the league’s zero-tolerance policy toward crowd violence and pitch invasions.
