French football league sanctions FC Nantes over pitch invasion incident
After the chaotic scenes that cut short the Ligue 1 match between FC Nantes and Toulouse on the final matchday, the disciplinary body has handed down its verdict.
French football’s governing body has delivered its judgment on the pitch invasion that disrupted the final league fixture of the season. The incident, sparked by disgruntled ultras protesting the club’s relegation to Ligue 2, prompted authorities to impose sanctions against FC Nantes.
No point deduction applied
The disciplinary committee confirmed the 0-0 score recorded when the match was abandoned, while also announcing that FC Nantes will play their next home game behind closed doors.
Beyond the empty stadium requirement, the punishment includes the closure of the Loire stand – the source of the disturbances – for two additional matches.
Club officials avoided a far harsher penalty that could have included points deductions for next season’s Ligue 2 campaign.
