Pastef’s absence from Senegal’s new government
The recently appointed Prime Minister, Ahmadou Al Aminou Mohamed Lô, unveiled his cabinet of 30 ministers on Monday evening. Notably, this new governmental lineup lacks prominent figures from the Pastef party, nor does it include close associates of former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. The Pastef party, which holds a majority in the National Assembly, has cited “points of disagreement” as the reason for its non-participation. This raises critical questions: What is the precise nature of these disagreements? How can we explain the presence of five Pastef members within the new government despite the party’s official stance? Furthermore, do these individual ministers now face potential sanctions or even expulsion from the party for their decision to join?
