This declaration signifies a definitive political separation from his former Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, marking a significant shift in the nation’s leadership landscape. The party’s name, « Kiiraay », translates to “shield” in Wolof, symbolizing its protective ethos.
Addressing an enthusiastic crowd of supporters at the inaugural gathering, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye confidently proclaimed, « Kiiraay is the majority party in this country. » His statement underscored the ambition and perceived strength of the newly formed entity.
The new political formation operates under the rallying cry of « Patriotes républicains » (Republican Patriots).
