Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Amine Mohamed Lô has officially announced the formation of a new Senegalese government, comprising 30 members. Notably, the cabinet does not include any representatives from PASTEF-Les Patriotes, the party holding a majority in the National Assembly.
This executive reorganization emerges amidst a significant national political realignment in Senegal, characterized by the integration of various technocratic and political figures into the new team. Just hours before the official list was made public, former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko had indicated that members of his political movement would not participate in this latest government.
Sonko had previously stated that PASTEF-Les Patriotes, acting responsibly and in line with its executive committee’s commitments, as reiterated by President Ousmane Sonko himself during his installation at the National Assembly, had engaged in multiple discussions with the President of the Republic regarding this matter.
Outlining the strategic direction for the newly appointed team, the Senegalese Prime Minister emphasized that this cabinet is conceived as a «mission government with an obligation of results». It is built upon both political and technocratic foundations, with a deliberate focus on integrating young talent and women into key roles.
He further elaborated that the government’s approach will feature a revised methodology, prioritizing institutional coherence and leveraging the expertise of both national professionals and the Senegalese diaspora.
The new configuration of the Senegalese government sees several ministers from the previous administration retaining their portfolios. These include Cheikh Diba at the Ministry of Economy, Cheikh Niane overseeing Foreign Affairs, Cheikh Tidiane Dièye in charge of Hydraulics and Sanitation, and Moustapha Guirassy continuing as Minister of National Education.
Similarly, other key officials maintaining their positions are Ibrahima Sy for Health, Moussa Bala Fofana for Urban Planning, Yankhoba Diémé for the Armed Forces, Déthié Fall for Infrastructure, and Bakary Sarr for Communication.
This restructuring follows President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s decision on May 26 to appoint Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as the new Prime Minister. Lô steps into the role previously held by Ousmane Sonko, who has since been elected to the esteemed position of President of the Senegalese National Assembly.
