Sonko challenges Faye’s governance at Sadio rally

In a highly charged speech delivered this past Sunday in Sadio, Diourbel Region, Ousmane Sonko, leader of the PASTEF-Les Patriotes movement, unleashed a scathing critique of the current administration’s handling of power. Addressing a captivated crowd of supporters, he questioned the trajectory of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s leadership, suggesting a stark departure from the movement’s founding principles.

Sonko recalled the pivotal moments leading up to the March 2024 presidential election, highlighting his own pivotal role in rallying behind Faye after his own candidacy was disqualified. « We propelled him to the highest office, yet he has drifted from the core project that united the people, » Sonko declared, his words resonating with frustration. The Premier Minister emphasized what he described as a fading hope among citizens, urging a return to the promises made to the Senegalese people.

The political figure went further, asserting that the elected government’s actions have strayed significantly from the original vision presented to voters. He framed the situation as a betrayal of the collective aspirations that defined the 2024 political shift, positioning himself as a key architect of that historic moment. « The people’s hope was real, but it risks dissipating if we stray from our commitments, » Sonko warned.

Looking ahead, Sonko set his sights on the upcoming electoral milestones in 2026 and 2029, framing them as critical opportunities to realign the nation’s political course with PASTEF’s original agenda. His remarks come at a time of intensified scrutiny over the relationship between the President and his administration, though no official response from the presidency has yet emerged.
