During the 85th session of the Executive Committee of the Pan-African Parliament, the President of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, met with Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge, Chair of the Executive Committee of this continental parliamentary body. The high-level discussion, held on June 4, centered on the institutional mission of the Union Parlementaire Africaine (UPA) and ways to bolster its operational framework amid mounting challenges facing the African continent.
In a candid exchange, Ousmane Sonko outlined key proposals to enhance the UPA’s effectiveness, advocating for sweeping reforms in its governance structure. His vision includes aligning the Union’s strategic priorities with broader continental policy objectives to amplify its influence on critical political and institutional decisions across Africa.
The Senegalese lawmaker emphasized the need for tighter alignment between UPA recommendations and those of the African Union. He argued that greater cohesion between these institutions would eliminate policy fragmentation, ensuring more unified and impactful action across the continent.
