The Prime Minister of the Republic of Chad, Mr. Allamaye Halina, highlighted today the vital importance of the Algerian-Chadian relationship and the deepening brotherhood and cooperation between the two nations across multiple sectors. He particularly commended Algeria’s ongoing support, which has been instrumental in strengthening Chad’s energy production capacities and improving electricity supply to fuel economic and social development.
N’Djamena’s new 40 MW power plant marks a milestone in bilateral cooperation
The ceremony for laying the foundation stone of the new 40 MW power plant in N’Djamena brought together high-level officials from both countries, including the Algerian Prime Minister, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb, government representatives, ambassadors, and local authorities. The event underscored the shared vision of the two heads of state—President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno of Chad and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria—who are committed to deepening cooperation between their nations.
The project, which symbolizes more than just the start of construction, reflects a mutual ambition to advance sustainable development, economic growth, and the well-being of both populations. It builds on the strong commitments formalized in the Memorandum of Understanding signed in April 2026 and the donation agreement finalized in May 2026, demonstrating the efficiency of technical collaboration between Chad and Algeria.
Algeria’s contribution to Chad’s energy resilience
The 40 MW gas turbine power plant, provided by Algeria, represents a significant step toward strengthening Chad’s energy infrastructure and meeting the rising demand for electricity. This initiative reinforces the historical ties of friendship and solidarity that have long defined the relationship between the two countries.
In a gesture of gratitude, the Chadian Prime Minister extended his sincere appreciation to:
- President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria;
- Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb;
- The Algerian government;
- All technical teams involved in the project.
Energy as a driver of progress in Chad
Recognizing energy as a cornerstone of economic and social development, Chad has prioritized expanding its energy sector. The new power plant will enhance electricity access in N’Djamena, stabilize the grid, and support economic activities, public services, and urban growth. The benefits will extend to households, schools, hospitals, and businesses across the capital.
The Chadian government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the project’s smooth execution by:
- Ensuring adherence to agreed terms;
- Streamlining administrative and logistical processes;
- Providing technical support and securing the construction site;
- Maintaining rigorous oversight of the project’s progress.
A model of African cooperation
This landmark project signifies a new chapter in Algerian-Chadian relations, demonstrating Africa’s capacity to harness its own resources and expertise to address development challenges. Beyond providing energy, the plant symbolizes trust, fraternity, and a shared future built on pragmatic diplomacy.
The Chadian Prime Minister expressed hope that this initiative would pave the way for future collaborations in energy, infrastructure, health, education, and economic development, reinforcing the sovereignty, prosperity, and mutual confidence of both nations.
Long live the friendship between the Chadian and Algerian peoples!
Long live African solidarity in the service of progress!
