Aminata Touré, the Supervisor General of the Diomaye Président coalition, has sharply criticised former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko following his dismissal, framing his tenure as a failure driven by inefficiency rather than action.
Sonko’s brief premiership marked by unfulfilled promises
During a press briefing, Touré highlighted the contrast between Sonko’s leadership style and concrete results. Her remarks underscored the coalition’s stance: real leadership, in her view, is measured by tangible solutions—not the exercise of power without impact. “Niou fal la Premier ministre djokh la ay dossiers meuno ci touss niou dakeu la,” she remarked, critiquing Sonko’s approach as one that prioritised authority over accountability.
Competence over prerogatives
Touré emphasised that Senegal’s challenges demand strategic problem-solving, not prolonged political manoeuvring. She argued that Sonko’s two-year tenure failed to address pressing national issues, instead relying on institutional leverage without delivering meaningful change. Her critique reflects a broader narrative within the coalition, positioning competence and results as the benchmarks for effective governance.
The Supervisor General’s comments come amid heightened political scrutiny, with the coalition positioning itself as a voice for reform and accountability in Senegal’s evolving leadership landscape.
