Cotonou and Rabat — Top diplomats from Bénin and Morocco have concluded high-level talks in Cotonou, reaffirming their commitment to deepen and expand a partnership built on decades of collaboration. The discussions, held ahead of the seventh session of the Joint Moroccan-Beninese Cooperation Commission, reflect a shared ambition to elevate bilateral relations to new heights.
During the meetings, Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, and Corinne Amori Brunet, Bénin’s Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of Afro-descendant Integration, accompanied by Hugues Oscar Lokossou, Minister Delegate for Resource Mobilization and Debt Management, highlighted the remarkable progress achieved across key sectors since King Mohammed VI’s landmark visit to Cotonou in June 2004.
The dialogue underscored not only the tangible results of their cooperation but also the deep-rooted friendship and mutual respect between the two nations. A highlight of the talks was the emphasis on transforming the Bénin-Morocco partnership into a benchmark for inter-African collaboration, anchored in shared values of solidarity, exchange, and mutual benefit.
Both delegations identified high-potential areas poised for further development, including economy, trade, industry, investments, tourism, agriculture, justice, security, vocational training, higher education, scientific research, healthcare, digital innovation, and cultural exchange.
Central to their strategy is the mobilization of the private sector in both countries. The representatives stressed the need for businesses to take a leading role in driving economic exchanges and contributing to sustainable development financing. This vision aligns with a broader goal: fostering a robust, dynamic partnership that benefits citizens in both Bénin and Morocco.
