The strengthening of bilateral relations between Burkina Faso and Serbia took a significant step forward as high-level diplomatic exchanges unfolded in Ouagadougou. On June 3, 2026, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, Foreign Minister of Burkina Faso, along with Deputy Minister Bêbgnasgnan Stella Eldine Kabré/Kaboré, welcomed a Serbian parliamentary delegation led by Slavenko Ristic.
During this working visit, the delegation explored avenues for deeper cooperation, with a strong focus on defense, security, and professional training. The talks reflected both countries’ commitment to unlocking new opportunities in these strategic sectors.

Slavenko Ristic, who also serves as CEO of Tehnicki Remont Bratunac, a defense technology firm, praised Burkina Faso’s current policy direction and the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré. “The President’s vision resonates strongly in my country and commands deep respect,” he remarked. The Serbian lawmaker emphasized Serbia’s eagerness to deepen its engagement with Africa, declaring, “Africa represents the future, and we are determined to be part of that future.”
The Burkinabè Foreign Minister highlighted the growing interest Serbia has shown in Burkina Faso, describing the visit as a clear sign of Belgrade’s strategic intent. He pointed to untapped potential in several key areas where both nations could collaborate more closely.
Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré underscored Burkina Faso’s ongoing efforts to diversify its international partnerships, particularly by engaging with countries in Eastern Europe. “We are actively seeking reliable partners to build mutually beneficial relationships,” he stated. He also outlined the country’s new strategic vision and urged greater European awareness of African realities when shaping future cooperation policies.

In response, Slavenko Ristic pledged to champion Burkina Faso’s interests—and Africa’s—within European policymaking circles, advocating for a more balanced approach to Euro-African cooperation. This meeting signals a fresh chapter in the evolving relationship between Ouagadougou and Belgrade, as Burkina Faso continues to actively seek new strategic alliances on the global stage.
