Cameroun’s sweeping transport modernization roadmap unveiled
The government is rolling out sweeping reforms to boost competitiveness through upgraded road, rail, and logistics networks.
Transforming Cameroun’s transport backbone
The government has announced an ambitious modernization plan for Cameroon’s transport infrastructure, focusing on roads, railways, urban mobility, and airports. This strategic initiative aims to enhance the country’s economic competitiveness and improve connectivity.
Key initiatives take center stage
On June 24-25, 2026, a high-level workshop was organized to present findings from feasibility studies for two critical projects: establishing a Land Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTT) and developing a National Logistics Strategy (SLN) with a 2035 action plan. The event brought together top transport officials, including Mbamome Nkendong Divine (Director of Road Transport) and Claude Misse Ntone (Director of Rail Transport), alongside representatives from Idea Consult International/TRT Studi Cameroun and key partners like the World Bank and African Development Bank.
Divine emphasized the importance of leveraging these preliminary findings to guide future project phases. Consultants delivered detailed presentations on study outcomes, highlighting actionable insights for implementation.
Road transport regulation agency takes shape
The proposed ARTT will be headquartered in Yaoundé, initially focusing on road transport before expanding its scope. The agency’s launch requires an initial investment of 260 million FCFA to establish institutional frameworks, office infrastructure, and essential IT systems.
National logistics strategy outlines bold investments
The National Logistics Strategy analysis reveals Cameroon’s logistics landscape challenges, opportunities, and strategic priorities. The plan proposes eight action axes, with a dominant focus on rail investments totaling €40 billion. A National Logistics Council would be created to provide inter-ministerial coordination and arbitration.
At the workshop’s conclusion, Divine commended the productive discussions and urged all stakeholders to maintain their commitment to advancing these transformative transport projects that will shape Cameroon’s economic future.
