Can Benin’s public health facilities finally overcome their chronic shortage of caregivers? That is the strategic question behind the latest move by the Ministry of Health, which has just unveiled the names of the young professionals chosen for the fourth wave of its “Bridging the Gaps” project. In an official statement dated October 7, 2026, Minister Benjamin Hounkpatin revealed the selection results, marking another milestone in the drive to strengthen the country’s health workforce.
Nearly 800 candidates selected after a merit-based process
A total of 787 young health professionals have been retained following the selection exercise. They are spread across four distinct skill categories, and each candidate was ranked strictly by order of merit, underscoring the competitive nature of the process.
The program is financed by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and is designed to ease the shortage of medical staff in public health structures nationwide.
What happens before the new recruits take up their posts?
Before moving to their respective duty stations, the selected agents will take part in information and orientation sessions meant to prepare them for their new responsibilities. The schedule for these welcome and integration meetings will be announced later by ministry authorities.
