Chad suspends four dairy brands over health risks in N’Djamena

Chad’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued an urgent directive to halt the distribution of four local yogurt brands after inspections uncovered serious health violations in their production processes.

The order, signed by Minister Dr. Guibolo Fanga Mathieu, follows a week-long inspection campaign conducted by the Centre for Food Quality Control (CECOQDA) from June 1 to June 5 in N’Djamena’s dairy production facilities.

Laboratory tests revealed unacceptable levels of microbiological contamination and chemical irregularities in samples collected from multiple production lines. Inspectors also documented widespread breaches of hygiene protocols, improper storage practices, and inadequate safety measures throughout the supply chain.

The four companies affected by the suspension are Tami Yaourt, Alkhiza Yaourt, Lazza Yaourt, and Yaourt Gamar. The ministry has mandated an immediate recall of all products from these brands currently on the market, halting further distribution until further notice.

In response, the government has required the companies to implement all corrective measures outlined by CECOQDA to restore compliance with national food safety regulations. Failure to comply may result in additional penalties or permanent market exclusion.

This enforcement action marks the beginning of a broader initiative to strengthen food safety oversight across Chad. The Ministry of Commerce has announced plans to expand unannounced inspections to all food production and distribution facilities nationwide. Citizens are strongly encouraged to report any suspicious or unsafe food products to local authorities.
