Tchad : vers un apaisement entre magistrats et ministre de la Sécurité

On May 27, 2026, a crucial meeting convened at the Ministry of Justice in N’Djamena, aiming to resolve the recent friction stemming from statements made by the Minister of Public Security and Immigration. This significant gathering brought together prominent officials, including the Minister of Justice, Mme Ndolenodji Alixe Naimbaye, and the Minister of Public Security, Ali Ahmat Aghabache.

The Minister of Justice emphasized the critical role of inter-institutional dialogue and the necessity of fostering an environment of calm. The Minister of Public Security, in turn, clarified that his remarks, originally delivered during a discussion concerning public domain occupation, had been misconstrued due to manipulated video edits. He asserted that he never intended to criticize the judiciary and expressed regret over the inaccurate dissemination of his comments.

Representatives of judicial unions voiced their deep concerns, perceiving the minister’s initial statements as an affront to the independence of the magistracy. Nevertheless, they acknowledged and welcomed the apologies extended by both the government and the minister, while simultaneously requesting further elucidation on specific phrases deemed ambiguous.

The minister acknowledged the potential for misinterpretation in his previous remarks and committed to issuing a clear, public apology. The First President of the Supreme Court advocated for continued institutional dialogue as a vital means to safeguard stability and public trust within the judicial system.

All attendees reached a consensus on refining any unclear aspects within the forthcoming letter of apology and agreed to release a public communiqué detailing the steps taken towards reconciliation. The meeting concluded on a notably harmonious note.
