Grand-Bassam hosts pivotal discussions on sustainable blue economy development
The coastal city of Grand-Bassam became the focal point of Côte d’Ivoire’s blue economy ambitions on July 30, 2026, as experts, policymakers, and industry leaders convened for a critical validation workshop. Organized under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the two-day event aimed to align thematic group findings with national sustainable development priorities while mapping concrete public-private partnership opportunities.
FAO’s strategic vision for Côte d’Ivoire’s aquatic resources
Dedi Séraphin, FAO Côte d’Ivoire’s Programme Officer, outlined the agency’s long-standing collaboration with Ivorian authorities to strengthen food security, promote sustainable natural resource management, and advance blue economy initiatives. The thematic group reports, he emphasized, serve as strategic decision-making tools designed to shape public policies and investments while reflecting field realities and national priorities.
During the workshop, participants were challenged to critically assess these reports, identify viable public-private partnership avenues, and develop actionable recommendations. Séraphin underscored FAO’s commitment to supporting Côte d’Ivoire’s implementation efforts through technical expertise and stakeholder engagement.
Government priorities align with blue economy development goals
Dr. Kaba Ibrahima, Technical Advisor to the Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, echoed the government’s dedication to translating workshop outcomes into tangible results. He highlighted the administration’s resolve to leverage blue economy growth for enhanced food sovereignty, youth employment, and economic resilience.
The advisor commended FAO’s sustained support, noting the organization’s technical and methodological contributions as vital to advancing the nation’s blue economy agenda. The workshop, which brought together key stakeholders—including sectoral ministry representatives, private sector actors, financial partners, and civil society—concluded on July 31, 2026.
