The second edition of the Student Banker Day and the inaugural Mentoring Day, organized by the Association of Alumni and Student Bankers of Félix Houphouët-Boigny University (AEB-UFHB) in collaboration with Afrique Femme, the Ministry of Youth Promotion, Professional Integration and Civic Service, and the Youth Employment Agency, took place at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny University in Cocody.
A key highlight was the presence of Mr. Anderson Assui, Special Advisor to the Minister of Youth Promotion, Professional Integration and Civic Service, who represented the Minister during the event.
The first-ever Mentoring Day introduced an innovative format with TED Talks focused on soft skills, leadership, personal development, and mentorship. These sessions aimed to connect students with seasoned professionals and inspiring leaders, equipping them with essential tools for entering the job market.
Two TED Talks stood out: the first, led by Mr. Assolé Dabiré, Human Resources Director at Zenith Bank Côte d’Ivoire, explored the behavioral skills most valued by employers. The second, delivered by Ms. Fanta Traoré, Managing Director of Empower Consulting, underscored the critical role of networking in career growth and how a strong professional network unlocks opportunities.
The event featured two high-level panel discussions. The first addressed digitalization and interoperability in the UEMOA zone, bringing together representatives from the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), Wave, Djamo, and Visa to discuss payment systems, financial innovation, and digital inclusion.
The second panel focused on life insurance, pension funds, and economic financing. Jean Kacou Diagou, Founder and President of the NSIA Group, shared his entrepreneurial journey through a compelling storytelling session. He emphasized the importance of perseverance, integrity, and long-term vision, offering students valuable lessons from his experience.
Throughout the day, students engaged directly with speakers, received tailored career advice, and expanded their professional networks through mentorship and networking sessions.
By combining the Student Banker Day and Mentoring Day, AEB-UFHB, Afrique Femme, and their partners reaffirmed their commitment to bridging the gap between academia and the financial sector. Through mentorship, networking, and skill development, this initiative prepares young professionals for the evolving job market while fostering lasting connections between students and industry leaders, according to organizers.
