FC Nantes denounces violent pitch invasion following loss to Toulouse

The club issued a strongly worded statement Monday condemning the actions of cagouled individuals who stormed the pitch following the match’s abandonment
FC Nantes has expressed outrage following the pitch invasion at their Beaujoire stadium during Sunday’s abandoned match against Toulouse. The club’s official statement, released Monday afternoon, comes as the French Football League (LFP) examines the case ahead of a verdict scheduled for May 27.
In a forceful communiqué, the club emphasized that while it understands the deep frustration stemming from a season of poor performances and relegation, the club’s core values and identity cannot be compromised by such unacceptable behavior. The statement specifically condemned the actions of masked individuals who forced their way onto the pitch, creating an atmosphere of intimidation and fear.
«While we recognize the distress and disappointment of our supporters following a season filled with challenges and the harsh reality of relegation, FC Nantes’ values, history and identity must remain untarnished by these acts, » declared the club, now set to compete in Ligue 2 next season. «Anger and disappointment cannot justify the presence of hooded individuals storming the pitch and disrupting the peaceful atmosphere that should define our stadiums. A football stadium must remain a space of celebration, safety and unity for all. »
A call for unity and respect
The club extended its gratitude to the vast majority of supporters who maintained their composure throughout the evening despite the tense atmosphere. FC Nantes also acknowledged the security teams and authorities for their diligent work during the incident. The statement concluded with an appeal for calm, respect and unity as the club prepares for the upcoming season, emphasizing the need to work together to rebuild under the best possible conditions.
The club has pledged its full cooperation with authorities, the LFP and state services to ensure a thorough investigation and accountability for the events that transpired.
