The newly appointed diplomats include His Excellency Monsignor Relwende Kisito Ouedraogo, Apostolic Nuncio to Gabon; Fadoul Kitir Zakaria, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Chad; Seyed Gholamreza Mirmohammad Meigoni, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran; Mohamed Bourhan Ali, Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti; and Leilani Bin-Juda, High Commissioner of Australia. All will be stationed abroad, representing their respective nations in Gabon’s diplomatic landscape.
The accreditation of these ambassadors signals a fresh chapter in the international relations of Gabon, a country actively strengthening ties with both traditional allies and emerging partners. The appointment of the Apostolic Nuncio and the Ambassador from Chad reflects the deep-rooted historical and cultural bonds between Gabon, the Holy See, and this Central African nation. Meanwhile, the arrival of the Australian High Commissioner highlights the growing collaboration between Libreville and Canberra, particularly through the involvement of the Australian firm Fortescue in the Belinga integrated mining project and its associated logistics corridor.
The diplomatic engagement with the Islamic Republic of Iran opens doors to expanded cooperation across multiple sectors, while the partnership with Djibouti is set to deepen in areas such as green economy, port infrastructure, and maritime security and defense. This was emphasized by President Oligui Nguema during his official visit to Djibouti in May, where he attended the inauguration of President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh.
