Over three million users joined the Mon Petit Prono phenomenon during this World Cup

France, Spain, England, or Argentina will hoist the World Cup trophy on Sunday. Yet among the buzz surrounding these football powerhouses, an unexpected phenomenon has captured the attention of fans worldwide. This time, the victor isn’t a nation—it’s a French-developed app. Since the tournament began, Mon Petit Prono—or MPP—has infiltrated office spaces, bars, and living rooms, becoming a viral sensation with its simple yet addictive prediction system.

How Mon Petit Prono works
The app thrives on friendly competition through its league system. Users can create or join leagues with friends, colleagues, or family members by sharing a unique link. Participants predict match outcomes before kickoff and forecast both the tournament winner and top scorer. Real-time leaderboards keep the excitement alive as scores are updated continuously.
Who’s playing?
According to industry tracking, MPP’s core user base includes business school students, corporate employees, families, and close-knit friend groups. Its accessibility has made it a go-to for casual fans and seasoned enthusiasts alike.
Why fans can’t get enough
We spoke with several users to uncover what makes MPP irresistible. Marie participates in three leagues—one with family, another with friends, and a third with colleagues. “It’s a tradition I’ve kept since I was old enough to watch matches,” she explains. “Before MPP, we used a different app that’s no longer available.”
The workplace league holds special appeal for her: “It fosters camaraderie beyond office chatter. We discuss matches at least once or twice daily, and I genuinely feel sorry for those who aren’t involved.”
Matia currently leads his league’s rankings. A seasoned prediction app user, he credits MPP’s universal appeal: “You don’t need football expertise to win. Sure, watching more matches helps you spot favorites, but even newcomers can triumph.”
Camille praises the app’s intuitive design: “It’s user-friendly for everyone, from seasoned bettors to first-timers. The interface is straightforward, making it easy to dive in without prior experience.”
Addiction in the best sense
Most users check MPP multiple times daily—before, during, and after matches. Marie admits she’s woken up at 4 a.m. to check scores: “During the early rounds, I’d lie awake with a knot in my stomach before night matches, especially with the heatwave. I’d force myself to get up to check my predictions. A wrong score could keep me awake for hours.”
Balancing fun and responsibility
While the app fuels excitement, it also raises concerns similar to gambling culture. Though MPP doesn’t facilitate monetary bets, users can organize their own wagering systems. Marie prefers non-monetary incentives: “Adding money changes the dynamic. In my friend group, the winner gets a barbecue and a pack of beers.”
Potential conflicts also emerge, particularly in workplace leagues: “Football novices get teased, and I’m a sore loser—it stresses me out,” she admits.
From humble beginnings to a global hit
The Mon Petit Prono journey began in 2011 as Mon Petit Gazon. Three colleagues—Martin Jaglin, Benjamin Fouquet, and Grégory Rota—shared a passion for football but grew frustrated with their usual prediction platform. With no financial backing or marketing plan, they took a bold gamble and acquired the site. However, legal issues soon arose when they relied on L’Équipe’s match data, forcing them to pivot in 2013.
Undeterred, they expanded internationally in 2016 with My Little Nuts in the UK and Mi Gran Delantera in Spain. A breakthrough came in 2018 with a €1 million fundraising round backed by investors like Sébastien Bazin, Martin Solveig, and Jean-Étienne Amaury. The founders left their jobs to focus full-time on rebranding and scaling the app.
In 2022, LFP MEDIA acquired Mon Petit Gazon for an estimated €20-30 million. Since June 11, MPP has seen unprecedented growth, with downloads surging by 340% in just eight days. It now dominates app store charts.
