GCE 2026 exams postponed after leaked papers spread online

The Minister of Secondary Education, Nalova Lyonga, announced on June 6, 2026, the postponement of all remaining written GCE exams scheduled for June 8–18. The decision follows the widespread circulation of confidential exam papers on social media platforms.

The new exam dates have been set for June 22 to July 2, 2026. Technical and professional exams will proceed as planned. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify the source of the leak, with digital evidence collected for analysis.

Fake document fuels misinformation

Following the announcement, a counterfeit document circulating online falsely claimed the Minister had reversed the decision. After thorough verification, the Ministry confirmed the postponement remains in place. Candidates are advised to report to their exam centers as scheduled on Monday.

In Cameroon, the unauthorized sharing of exam papers on social media—commonly referred to as “l’eau”—has become a persistent issue, undermining the integrity of national diplomas like the Baccalaureate and GCE.

Security upgrades in response to repeated leaks

Platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram have become primary channels for distributing leaked exam materials, often featuring answers before exams begin. Repeated leaks have forced education authorities to reschedule exams to maintain fairness.

Investigations have exposed vulnerabilities in the exam supply chain, including selection, validation, printing, and distribution processes. Cases of collusion involving teachers and administrative staff have been identified. To combat fraud, authorities have implemented stricter measures, including QR code verification and digitization of exam materials.
