The Alliance of Ivorians for Democracy (AID) and the Union of Popular Masses for Peace (UMPP) have publicly endorsed the government’s initiative to reform the electoral governance framework in Côte d’Ivoire. Speaking on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, in Abidjan, the coalition highlighted what it described as the administration’s responsiveness to long-standing concerns raised by political actors and civil society organizations.
During a press briefing led by spokesperson Zadi Djédjé, the group explained that their endorsement follows a June 22 information session at the Prime Minister’s Office, chaired by Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé. The session focused exclusively on the restructuring of the electoral body.
The coalition emphasized that the decision to dissolve the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI)—whose members had completed their term—and the introduction of a new electoral governance structure directly address demands that political parties and civil society groups have voiced for years. They noted that this reform signals a fresh start for elections in Côte d’Ivoire, with the stated goals of enhancing transparency, rebuilding trust among political stakeholders, and preventing pre- and post-election conflicts.
The AID-UMPP coalition also acknowledged the CEI’s past contributions while commending the government’s decision to establish three distinct entities: one responsible for logistical election management, another for vote tallying, and a third for overall electoral oversight. They described this model as a commitment to professionalism, impartiality, fairness, and efficiency—principles they believe will strengthen institutional stability and enhance the credibility of future elections.
The group urged all political parties, civil society organizations, community leaders, and electoral stakeholders to support the reform’s implementation with a spirit of responsibility, patriotism, and constructive dialogue. While encouraging continued government efforts toward national cohesion and stability, the coalition called on political actors to place their trust in the country’s institutions, asserting that respect for democratic institutions is fundamental to preserving peace and deepening democracy in Côte d’Ivoire.
