Journalist Aïssatou Diop Fall is currently facing repercussions for her contentious remarks concerning Ousmane Sonko, where she reportedly advocated for his abduction. Despite issuing public apologies, she has been summoned to appear before the Special Cybersecurity Division to provide explanations to investigators.
Aïssatou Diop Fall has received a summons from the Special Cybersecurity Division (DSC) of the National Police. This action follows a direct referral by the Public Prosecutor at the High Court of Dakar, who initiated proceedings independently.
According to reports, the director of Public SN television network is expected to meet with investigators this Monday. She will be questioned regarding statements that ignited a significant controversy across social media platforms and within the public sphere.
Aïssatou Diop Fall’s controversial pronouncements
The controversy stems from a media appearance during which the journalist expressed a desire for Ousmane Sonko, the leader of PASTEF, to be kidnapped by terrorists. These comments swiftly triggered widespread condemnation and criticism.
In response to the public outcry, Aïssatou Diop Fall released a subsequent video, offering her apologies and conveying deep regret for her earlier statements.
Nevertheless, even with her public retraction, Public Prosecutor Ibrahima Ndoye has instructed the head of the Special Cybersecurity Division to proceed with her formal summons to facilitate a thorough inquiry into the matter.
