Violence erupted immediately after the final whistle. On the Champs-Élysées, a dozen youths targeted a bus shelter, clashing with a small police contingent attempting to disperse them. Near Porte de Saint-Cloud, just meters from the Parc des Princes, officers faced mortar fire from fireworks. Authorities responded with tear gas, marking the first arrests of the night. Later, a fleet of shared bicycles became engulfed in flames. The unrest intensified into full-scale confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement along the iconic avenue.

The Périphérique ring road descended into chaos as scores of scooters blocked traffic. Riders weaved against the flow while pedestrians wandered among stationary vehicles. A 24-year-old motorcyclist died after crashing into a concrete barrier erected to halt the procession. By dawn, a 17-year-old had been stabbed multiple times and remains in critical condition.

57 officers injured in nationwide disturbances

By Sunday morning, authorities confirmed 57 police officers and gendarmes injured across the country. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez noted a ‘significant increase in projectile and mortar fire against security forces,’ with footage showing sustained volleys of fireworks in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. The minister emphasized the ‘clear escalation in aggression against law enforcement.’

Disturbances spread to nearly a dozen cities beyond the capital. In Grenoble, rioters looted and vandalized shops. Nationwide, 780 individuals were detained during the night, with 457 still in custody by daybreak.
