Widespread reports from the Spanish press indicate that Paris Saint-Germain is actively pursuing Julian Alvarez this summer. Securing the Argentine forward presents a significant challenge, not only due to Atlético de Madrid’s valuation but also because FC Barcelona has expressed keen interest in the player. However, a crucial detail could ultimately steer Alvarez towards the Parisian club.

Following another demanding season, further intensified by the World Cup, PSG is expected to leverage the summer transfer window to reinforce its squad. The capital club has already initiated discussions on various targets, with Julian Alvarez emerging as a prominent name. The prolific Argentine striker, who joined Atlético de Madrid in 2024, might depart the Colchoneros this summer, but Paris is certainly not the sole contender for his signature.
Will Julian Alvarez choose PSG over Barcelona?
This Thursday, Mundo Deportivo provided fresh insights into the ongoing saga surrounding Julian Alvarez. Beyond speculating about a potential €100M offer from PSG, the Spanish publication revealed that Atlético de Madrid is reportedly disinclined to sell their star player to a direct rival, should a transfer become unavoidable this summer. This stance would place FC Barcelona, also keen on acquiring Alvarez, at a distinct disadvantage compared to Paris. The final decision, of course, rests with the World Cup winner, who has yet to publicly comment on his future.
“We haven’t moved an inch”
After Wednesday evening’s victory against RC Lens, Luis Campos addressed PSG’s transfer market strategy during an interview with beIN SPORTS. The capital club’s sporting director confirmed that no transfer activity will occur before the Champions League final against Arsenal on May 30. “Regarding the transfer market, and this is a decision we made with our coach and the president, our transfer window has been completely paused for several weeks now. We are fully aware of our upcoming targets, but we haven’t moved an inch on the market. The names currently circulating are purely speculative. Our ambition is to arrive on May 30 with motivation, with everyone fully focused on the final. We want to do everything to maintain our positive momentum. I’ve been told that a victory in the final can make history for everyone. Our intention is to reach the final in top form, and then we’ll see, but for now, we haven’t moved an inch.”
