President Goïta Inaugurates Construction of 15 New Hospitals!
Bamako, November 10, 2025. General of the Army Assimi Goïta, President of the Transition, officially launched the Presidential Emergency Hospital Project by laying its first stone. This pivotal ceremony, held at the Korofina Reference Health Center in Commune I of the Bamako District, signifies the commencement of a monumental initiative aimed at profoundly modernizing Mali’s national healthcare infrastructure.
Colonel-Major Assa Badiallo Touré, the Minister of Health and Social Development, emphasized that this project is a direct continuation of the December 2024 General States of Health. These crucial consultations had underscored the urgent need to enhance accessibility to medical care and elevate the overall quality of health services across the nation.
Comprehensive Overhaul of the National Hospital System
According to the Minister, this ambitious undertaking is designed for a significant “modernization and restructuring” of the hospital system. It encompasses the construction of 15 brand-new hospitals and the strategic conversion of existing Reference Health Centers (CSREF) within the Bamako District into fully-fledged District Hospitals. The entire project, funded exclusively by the national budget, is projected to span 12 months for facilities in Bamako and 24 months for those in the regions.
The Presidential Emergency Hospital Project is structured around three key components:
- The transformation of CSREF facilities across Bamako’s seven arrondissements into modern district hospitals.
- The establishment of new district hospitals in the localities of Bla and Kangaba.
- The development of state-of-the-art regional hospitals in San, Koutiala, Bougouni, Dioïla, Nioro, Bandiagara, and Koulikoro.
These forthcoming medical facilities will be outfitted with cutting-edge medical equipment, feature expanded hospitalization capacities, and offer specialized services. This includes dedicated hemodialysis units for the hospitals in Bamako’s 1st and 6th arrondissements.
Project Priorities and Oversight
Following the inauguration ceremony, the President of the Transition reiterated the fundamental importance of health as a cornerstone for national development. He urged the Minister of Health to ensure uninterrupted public service throughout the construction phases and strict adherence to contractual timelines. President Goïta also underscored the project’s profound human objective: to bring high-quality medical care closer to all citizens, significantly reduce the need for medical evacuations abroad, and alleviate congestion in existing healthcare facilities.
