In an unprecedented judicial proceeding at the Yaoundé Military Tribunal, a disturbing video depicting the final moments of investigative journalist Martinez Zogo was unveiled to the court. Over two days—June 1 and 2, 2026—the tribunal presented footage that has left an indelible mark on all who witnessed it.

Courtroom in shock after graphic footage

On the morning of June 1, silence gripped the courtroom as the video played. Martinez Zogo, visibly battered, appeared on screen. His body bore the unmistakable marks of severe torture. Blood stained his clothes as he struggled to speak, repeatedly pleading for help. The harrowing images forced the tribunal to immediately suspend proceedings.

“The emotional impact is overwhelming,” remarked defense lawyer Ludovic Sabze. “I suspect I’m not alone in feeling this way.”

The following day, emotions remained raw. Faces in the courtroom were hardened, minds still reeling from the previous day’s revelations. The footage originated from the Google account of Sergeant Godje Oumarou Vincent, a former agent with Cameroon’s Directorate of Military Intelligence (DGRE).

Cybersecurity expert Georges Bell Bitjoka, acting as a prosecution witness, uncovered critical digital evidence. “This report reshuffles the entire narrative,” declared Calvin Job, attorney for the Zogo family. “It dismantles everything we’ve been told since the beginning.” He praised the expert’s meticulous work and technical precision, stating that if the tribunal relies on this report, “it will have already completed 98% of its mission.”

Unanswered questions linger over the case

Yet, a central question remains unanswered: who ordered the abduction and torture of Martinez Zogo? To date, no clear mastermind has been identified.

Paul Chouta, a colleague of Martinez Zogo, highlighted a troubling pattern. “The expert revealed a surge in communications between businessman Jean-Pierre Amougou Belinga and Justin Danwe from January 18 to 28—the period between the journalist’s abduction and the discovery of his body. Physical meetings were also documented. However, significant data was deleted, leaving critical gaps in the investigation.”

Georges Bell Bitjoka confirmed that only 18% of the data extracted from Amougou Belinga’s phone could neither confirm nor refute his involvement in the crime.

The legal team representing Martinez Zogo has formally requested additional forensic analysis to examine the deleted exchanges between Justin Danwe and Amougou Belinga. This move could help clarify some of the lingering uncertainties surrounding the case. The trial has been adjourned until June 22 and 23.
