Libye, Mohamed Arrouchi, crise libyenne,

Morocco is actively participating in the second Political Conference on the Peace, Security, and Development Nexus, taking place on July 11 and 12 in Mombasa, Kenya.

This significant conference serves as a continuation of the inaugural Political Conference held in Tangier from October 25 to 27, 2022. That foundational meeting culminated in the adoption of the landmark Tangier Declaration, which established a comprehensive African vision for the nexus. This vision emphasizes harmonized public policies, strengthened partnerships, and the implementation of tangible projects designed to foster lasting peace, robust security, and sustainable development across the African continent.

The Tangier Process has solidified its position as the continent’s premier platform for dialogue concerning the intricate interdependence of peace, security, and development in Africa. It convenes key continental and international stakeholders committed to this vital domain, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The current second conference aims to critically assess the progress achieved in operationalizing the Tangier Declaration. Furthermore, it seeks to pinpoint effective operational strategies that can further enhance the vital connection between peace, security, and development throughout Africa, addressing the unique challenges and opportunities present in regions such as the Sahel.

Discussions at the conference are structured around five distinct panels. These sessions delve into critical areas, including the practical implementation of the Tangier Declaration through thematic projects, the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and youth-led innovations, the crucial balance between security expenditures and development investments, strategies for mobilizing financing for Nexus projects, and invaluable lessons gleaned from the African Union’s support for complex political transitions.

During these proceedings, the Moroccan delegation, led by Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, the Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, is highlighting Morocco’s forward-thinking vision. This vision advocates for an integrated approach to peace, security, and development, deeply rooted in strengthening collaborative partnerships and championing African-led solutions that are tailored to the continent’s specific priorities and realities.
