Morocco and Mali inaugurate vocational training complex in Bamako
In a landmark move to boost youth employment and technical skills in West Africa, the Kingdom of Morocco has officially handed over the Mohammed VI Professional Training Complex to the Malian government in Bamako. This state-of-the-art facility, covering 5,200 square meters, was constructed by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sustainable Development to address critical labor market demands in Mali.

The complex is equipped to train up to 1,000 students annually across 21 specialized programs. Twelve programs focus on construction and public works (BTP), while nine are dedicated to hospitality, tourism, and catering—sectors identified as vital for Mali’s economic growth. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning, combining classroom instruction with supervised fieldwork to ensure graduates are job-ready.
The center’s launch reflects a shared commitment between Rabat and Bamako to strengthen vocational education as a driver of sustainable development in the Sahel. By aligning training with market needs, the initiative aims to reduce youth unemployment and foster long-term economic resilience in the region.

During the handover ceremony, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita underscored the project’s broader significance. He described it as an embodiment of King Mohammed VI’s dedication to African youth, framed within a South-South cooperation model built on shared expertise, capacity building, and solidarity. Bourita highlighted that such initiatives reinforce Morocco’s role as a partner in Africa’s development, prioritizing human capital over short-term gains.
Malian Minister of Entrepreneurship, Employment, and Vocational Training Oumou Sall Seck conveyed the gratitude of President Assimi Goita and the Malian people. She praised the gesture as a strategic investment in Mali’s future, aligning with the country’s urgent need to upskill its workforce and stimulate growth in high-potential industries. Seck noted that the complex would serve as a model for public-private partnerships aimed at empowering local communities.

This collaboration follows recent diplomatic alignments between Morocco and Mali, including Bamako’s reaffirmation of support for Morocco’s territorial integrity.
