Morocco recently reiterated its strong commitment before the African Union’s Peace and Security Council (PSC of the AU), emphasizing the urgent need to enhance the safeguarding of children impacted by armed conflicts. The nation specifically highlighted key areas such as preventing their recruitment into hostilities, ensuring their ongoing protection, and facilitating their sustainable reintegration into society.
During a significant meeting of the AU PSC focused on “the protection of child soldiers in Africa,” the Moroccan delegation underscored the grim reality that children remain disproportionately affected by the enduring conflicts across the continent. They detailed how young lives are tragically exposed to forced recruitment, pervasive violence, and critical disruptions to their education, all of which severely jeopardize their long-term prospects and well-being.
