Paris ramps up security ahead of champions league final to curb potential violence
Seven magistrates will be specifically deployed, including at the juvenile prosecutor’s office, to address individuals involved in public disturbances.
Judicial authorities are meticulously preparing their strategy. The Paris prosecutor’s office announced on Thursday, May 28, that it would activate its “reinforced system, deployable for mass events” this weekend. This heightened alert is primarily due to the anticipation of the Champions League Final on Saturday in Budapest, which will see PSG face off against Arsenal.
A statement from the public prosecutor specifies that “up to seven magistrates will be available for adult and juvenile duty, in addition to maintaining specialized services.” Furthermore, “the procedures for the juvenile prosecutor’s office have been adapted, in collaboration with neighboring prosecutor’s offices,” to ensure “swift responses” for minors residing outside of Paris who may be involved in incidents.
Given the “potential for violent disturbances, as anticipated by ground operators and particularly the police prefecture,” the Paris prosecutor emphasized that “the use of immediate referrals (défèrements) will be prioritized, starting Saturday and even before the largest gatherings.” The prosecutor also warned that “judicial investigations,” enabling a judge to take charge, “may be initiated if further inquiries are required beyond the standard duration of police custody.” Moreover, “any serious offense reported but not leading to an immediate arrest during the act will also be subject to thorough investigations for subsequent prosecution.”
