Ousmane sonko maps out pastef’s future at crucial keur gorgui meeting

With its inaugural national congress less than three weeks away, the Pastef leadership convened on Friday, May 15, at the Cité Keur Gorgui residence of their esteemed leader, Ousmane Sonko. The purpose was clear: to steer the party towards its most significant structural transformation yet. Around the table, key figures and historical pillars of Pastef, including El Malick Ndiaye, Birame Souleye Diop, Yassine Fall, Daouda Ngom, and Ayib Daffé, were present.

The agenda for the gathering was entirely shaped by the critical political landscape of the coming weeks. Discussions primarily revolved around the logistical and strategic aspects of the upcoming national congress, scheduled for June 6, 2026. While the precise venue remains to be finalized, Diamniadio has emerged as a potential location for this pivotal event.

Ousmane Sonko underscored the paramount importance of the congress’s success. The Pastef leader conveyed his determination to demonstrate the party’s enduring political strength, stating, “We must ensure the congress is a triumph and re-energize the party’s base.” Beyond the immediate congress preparations, Sonko also emphasized the urgent need to restructure Pastef, aiming for enhanced clarity and operational efficiency.

The leader of the Patriots also addressed the vital issue of re-mobilization. He insisted on the imperative to engage actively on the ground, reaching even the most remote areas to connect with constituents. Following the productive session, El Malick Ndiaye, a prominent Pastef official and President of the National Assembly, shared his reflections on Facebook, affirming that “beyond challenges, promising prospects are emerging for our nation and our collective endeavor. These are prospects imbued with hope, progress, and sovereignty, which we will continue to forge together, with unwavering faith, discipline, and commitment.”
