During a recent press briefing, Deputy Amadou Ba disclosed what he described as the unfiltered account of telephone conversations between Ousmane Sonko and former Prime Minister Aminata Touré.
Deputy Amadou Ba, a prominent figure from Pastef-Les Patriotes, recently shed light on alleged phone calls involving Ousmane Sonko and Aminata Touré. These purported exchanges took place while the current Prime Minister, Sonko, was under incarceration. Ba’s revelations emerge amidst his ongoing defense of the government head regarding public funds management, adding another layer to the political discourse in West Africa.
According to the deputy’s account, during one of these significant calls, former Prime Minister Touré reportedly expressed strong reservations about Bassirou Diomaye Faye. She is alleged to have conveyed to Ousmane Sonko that “Diomaye lacks the capability to lead this nation. Should he remain in power, his tenure will not exceed two years.” This statement, as reported by Amadou Ba, highlights a notable divergence in political perspectives.
The parliamentarian now contends that these past remarks from Aminata Touré are difficult to reconcile with her current political positions. He suggests that Touré is attempting to “alter the historical narrative” and reinterpret past events to align with the evolving political landscape and shifts in power dynamics.
Despite the escalating tensions and sharp exchanges between the opposing factions, Amadou Ba advocated for calm and moderation. He firmly stated, “They are pushing us towards violence, but we will not succumb to it,” reiterating Pastef’s commitment to prioritizing political debate and constructive dialogue over direct confrontation. This stance underscores a desire for stability in Sahel politics.
