Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has issued clear directives to ministers overseeing Environment, Tourism, Economy, Planning, Cooperation, Finance, and Budget. Their mandate is to implement all necessary measures to invigorate the management of Senegal’s invaluable national natural heritage.
Working closely with COSIVRA, the government’s executive branch aims to forge a structured, modern, and sustainable approach to developing the nation’s national parks and key ecological sites. This innovative strategic direction will heavily rely on Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), seeking to harmoniously blend the critical preservation of biodiversity with enhanced economic appeal.
niokolo-koba, djoudj, saloum, and technopole at the core of Senegal’s tourism strategy
This governmental directive specifically targets several strategic and highly attractive tourist ecosystems across Senegalese territory. Among the sites directly earmarked for these partnership deployments are the renowned Parc national du Niokolo-Koba, Hann Park, the ecologically rich Delta du Saloum, the Parc national des oiseaux du Djoudj, and the sensitive urban reserves of Technopole de Dakar and Lac Rose.
By entrusting the development and enhancement of these crucial sites to private operators, under stringent state supervision, the government intends to attract significant structural investments. This initiative aims to modernize existing visitor infrastructure, generate new revenue streams, and simultaneously guarantee the strict protection and integrity of these classified natural spaces.
