Yesterday afternoon, the women of the Rassemblement pour le Gabon (RPG) set an energetic tone, signaling the heightened activity expected from the political party. They convened to actively implement the strategic directives outlined by the party’s new president, Raphaël Edzang. Having officially taken office on Saturday, June 27, President Edzang had previously elaborated on the critical need to inject fresh momentum into the RPG, aiming to restore its vigor. He openly expressed his commitment to, as a top priority, reactivating all party structures, including provincial, departmental, and district councils.
This comprehensive restructuring represents the primary challenge that must be addressed to ensure the party’s long-term dynamism. President Edzang candidly acknowledged that the RPG had experienced “some minor setbacks” in recent years, which had significantly hampered its operational effectiveness. However, the current endeavor is fueled by the profound hope shared among its dedicated members. A palpable warmth was evident during the recent congress and his investiture ceremony, serving as a clear indicator that “the RPG is making its comeback.”
Nevertheless, achieving this ambitious return requires substantial efforts in mobilizing members and raising awareness about the various policy themes championed by this political organization. Indeed, as his four-year mandate commences, a comprehensive program structured into three distinct phases is actively being rolled out.
The initial phase involved a thorough review of the party’s foundational texts, ensuring their alignment with the contemporary political landscape. This overhaul also incorporated a focus on establishing a balanced distribution of power within the decision-making bodies. The second phase will concentrate on updating the party’s core societal project, shifting its focus from aspirational slogans like “gift school, gift hospital, work for all, and land for all” to concrete, actionable implementation strategies.
To achieve these goals, extensive information and explanation campaigns are planned. These initiatives will educate the public on the practical steps required to deliver genuinely free healthcare and education, eradicate unemployment, and ensure universal access to land.
“The RPG is returning, and it is entirely achievable,” affirmed Raphaël Edzang in his closing remarks.
