Senegal is in mourning following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the revered Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, who was called to the divine presence on July 9, 2026. The announcement was met with widespread sorrow across the Mouride community and beyond.

Ousmane Sonko, President of Senegal’s National Assembly, conveyed his heartfelt condolences, reflecting on the deep bonds forged during their frequent meetings in Guinguinéo.

« With profound sorrow, I learned of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family of Guinguinéo, » Sonko stated. He emphasized the warm hospitality and unwavering kindness the religious leader consistently demonstrated.
« Each encounter left a lasting impression, marked by his genuine affection and generosity, » Sonko added.
In this time of grief, he extended his deepest sympathies to the deceased’s family, the General Khalife of the Mouride brotherhood, the Guinguinéo religious community, and the entire Senegalese people. His final words offered a prayer: « May God, in His boundless mercy, grant him forgiveness and eternal peace in Paradise. »
