Senegal politics: Sonko’s government faces scrutiny in national assembly session

The Prime Minister of Senegal, Ousmane Sonko, alongside his cabinet, is set to appear before the National Assembly this Friday, May 22, 2026, for a critical session of parliamentary questions.

El Malick Ndiaye, Speaker of the National Assembly, confirmed the scheduled meeting, emphasizing its role in fostering accountability and dialogue between the government and legislators. This session marks a pivotal moment for lawmakers to scrutinize the Executive’s policies on key national issues.

During the proceedings, deputies will have the opportunity to directly question Sonko and several ministers on pressing matters such as economic stability, the rising cost of living, employment challenges, institutional reforms, and ongoing public policy initiatives. The exchange is expected to shed light on the government’s strategies for addressing these concerns.

Since assuming office in April 2024, Prime Minister Sonko has participated in four such sessions, establishing a regular forum for government-legislature engagement. This Friday’s gathering will be closely watched for insights into the administration’s priorities and responsiveness to parliamentary oversight.
