Sénégal three fans released from moroccan prison return to Dakar

Three Senegalese football fans, previously detained in Morocco following incidents during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), have returned to Dakar after serving their sentences. The trio—Abdoulaye Dieng, Ibrahima Diop, and Aziz Wade—landed at the Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) in Diass on Thursday evening, greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

The flight, operated by Royal Air Maroc, touched down at 18:25, marking a moment of relief and celebration for the returning supporters. Their arrival followed a period of legal proceedings in Rabat, where they were initially detained amid allegations of hooliganism.

legal troubles and sentencing

The three men were among 18 Senegalese fans arrested after the AFCON final between Senegal and Morocco. They faced charges including public disorder, throwing objects, damaging sports equipment, and assaulting law enforcement officers. After a three-month prison sentence, they were released on April 18.

Dieng, Diop, and Wade completed their terms, while the remaining 15 supporters still in Moroccan custody face sentences ranging from six months to one year. Their eventual return to Senegal will depend on the completion of their respective prison terms.

hope for remaining supporters

The gradual release of the remaining detainees is expected as their sentences expire. Each case is being monitored closely, with the Senegalese government and football federation working to ensure their safe return. The incident has highlighted ongoing concerns about fan behavior and security measures at international sporting events.
