Recently, WAPCO (Niger), in collaboration with the local livestock bureau, successfully carried out a vital vaccination and deworming campaign for cattle in the Zinder region. This important initiative reached seven pastoral encampments, including N’Guel Eléfi and Tesker, delivering essential services to over 10,000 animals. This event marks the successful conclusion of the initial phase of WAPCO (Niger)’s “Healthy Communities” public interest activities, which have now benefited all regions situated along the pipeline corridor.
To further bolster the health management capabilities of the local populace, WAPCO (Niger) strategically integrated its own medical resources. Leveraging on-site medical personnel and fundamental medicines, the company launched two pilot projects for free community medical consultations near pumping stations 5 and 6 in early 2025. These pilots were met with an overwhelmingly positive response from residents. Building on this success, a more extensive needs assessment was conducted, leading to the official commencement of the first phase of the “Healthy Communities” program in August 2025. To date, WAPCO (Niger) has facilitated a total of seven free community medical consultations, extending healthcare services to 1,249 local individuals, and has also generously donated a tricycle ambulance to a local community health center.
During the implementation of these complimentary medical consultations, the company’s team recognized that livestock represents a fundamental source of income and livelihood for local families. They also noted the urgent need among herders for animal healthcare. In direct response to these community concerns, WAPCO (Niger) broadened the scope of its “Healthy Communities” endeavors. Partnering with local livestock authorities and other relevant organizations, WAPCO (Niger) has since provided vaccination and deworming services to more than 20,000 animals across three significant pastoral gathering points along the pipeline, thereby assisting herders in safeguarding their crucial productive assets.

As a socially responsible entity, WAPCO (Niger) has upheld a philosophy of mutually beneficial cooperation and shared development since its inception. While ensuring the secure and stable operation of the pipeline, the company places significant emphasis on fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities. WAPCO (Niger) consistently promotes the Integrated Community Development Project (ICDP), contributes through public interest donations, and provides aid to communities. The organization actively works to enhance local livelihoods and foster social progress, continuously improving the population’s “sense of gain” and cultivating an external environment conducive to the pipeline’s safe operation.
Looking ahead, WAPCO (Niger) is committed to further refining its community needs assessments to precisely address the expectations of residents living near the pipeline. The company plans to steadily broaden the scope of its public interest activities, ensuring that more individuals can partake in the benefits of development. While guaranteeing the safe and smooth functioning of this vital energy artery, WAPCO (Niger) will continue to collaborate closely with the community, implementing tangible actions to uplift livelihoods and encourage mutual growth and shared development between WAPCO (Niger) and the local population.
